Do You Smell That?

I am happy to report that I have been sleeping better (due to some tricks up my sleeve that I entirely forgot were there) Only the weird thing is, I keep waking up for a few moments in the middle of the night...or more accurately, the early hours of the morning. Usually for no reason except to readjust my sleeping position, or to nab a drink of water...

Except for Sunday...

Apparently there was an all out skunk fest right below my bedroom window. The window was open, and no matter how hard I tried to incorporate skunk smell into the dream I was having, I finally woke up to the cat and I both choking.

There's nothing quite like fresh skunk smell. It's so strong, you can practically taste it...and I can't begin to even imagine what had been going on out there in the first place, as I hadn't heard a thing...just the horrible seeping smell of skunk butts wafting into the window...creeping in under the Roman shades. Nary a scuffle there was, making me wonder if there's just some renegade gang of skunks running around thinking it funny to point and shoot? I mean, the smell was so bad and I was so confused when I finally came to, I actually turned on the light to see if there was a colony of skunks in the room with us...

After staggering around for a while, I was able to finally shut the window and Meena and I were able to get back to the sleeping...after all, it was 2 am. I also noticed yesterday while watering, I drudged up more skunk smell...sitting here early in the morning in my living room, I can still smell it...now I'm worried that I have some sort of dramatic olfactory problem and this will be a lingering problem whenever I inhale.

So much for being an expert wine taster...

Oh hmmmm, this vintage has a lovely current of blackberries and oak mixed with the dew of early morning hyacinths...also, with a slight note of...hmmm...what is that? Oh yes, skunk...

Ohhhh, I've had the exact same thing happen to me! We were living in Oklahoma(land of skunks) and one night I went so far as to make Mark look in all the closets and under the bed! It was *that* strong. Our window had been open earlier in the evening and I was not too sure a skunk hadn't hopped right on in. The only thing that didn't make sense is that we didn't smell anything beforehand that would have indicated a skunk was in the bedroom(they stink from several paces even w/o having sprayed recently). We had lots of problems with skunks, coyotes, tarantulas and don't even get me started on the scorpions!!! Eeek!

eeooowww.....skunk butts! We seem to have a problem of the same sort around here..not too long ago, we had a skunk fire it off under the house right under our bed...and you're right, you CAN practically taste it...burning eyes, nose plugged up..love the Pepe LePew pic, tho....

It must be skunk season. This is the second post I've read about the phenomenon le p.u. just this morning.

had the same problem....but since I live in downtown Seattle.... I knew it couldn't be an actual skunk.

Turns out the jackass who lives underneath me-and happens to be the building manager- has converted his living room into a pot farm.

Now at least he keeps all his windows closed, so the smell doesn't waft up...but I have a bad feeling about how this will go when it gets cold enough to turn on the forced air heat :-(
