Anti-Labor Weekend...

I kind of took a poll before America's 3-day Labor Day weekend. My only question was..."Do you have anything special planned?" Every person I asked answered, "no"...

That made me wonder why? I turned it in towards my own life, and came up with the fact that there's not a lot of extra money for gas for travel, I have too much to do at home, and it's Labor Day...and I was planning to celebrate by not filling all of my time up with too much stimulation. I decided the last part after I realized that Rich was working the entire weekend, and I was exhausted after last week...I decided I would just hide out at home and indulge myself with relaxation instead.

Early Saturday I decided to clean up some things around the house. I found that housework can be extremely dangerous to one's health (I'm sure this can be proven again and again) I've switched to mostly all organic and natural cleaning products, I have a wonderful vacuum cleaner, and lots of other good cleaning aids. But, this weekend, while vacuuming one part of the living room, the room divider fell. You see, I bought a big heavy carved wooden room divider/folding screen for about $3 at a yard sale. It is so very neat (only not so much now...and I'm starting to wonder why exactly I even have it) but I don't have the perfect space for it at the moment, so it leans against the wall instead. After jumping 10 feet because the noise of it falling on the floor scared me, I put it back up...and it promptly fell on me...hitting me on the head and almost knocking me out. I am an Aries. Aries are ruled by the head. I often get hit in the head with things. I'm sort of use to it, but this really hurt. It did cut my weekend cleaning frenzy short. I have a sore bump on the left part of my forehead.

Housework is dangerous.

I washed some
material that I bought last season, so that I can make some flannel PJ pants. It's sitting draped over my chair still...I am one step closer.

I grabbed Rozz before running to CostCo to pick up my new glasses...We went to Goodwill and Target and browsed around as well. Other than seeing Rich a couple of times briefly this weekend, this was the only other human contact I had. I did make fun plans for this next weekend with my mom and Rozz though...I like my new glasses, they are different...and I am still getting use to the prescription. I notice I haven't been squinting as much. This is a good thing.

I got up early on Monday to get my hair cut. I went nuts and had Steve cut about 2-3 inches off, and had him put a lot more layers in. It's hard for me to have the same hair cut over and over. I am surprised to find that I miss the length more than I thought. Good thing that hair grows...and mine grows pretty fast, so I'll be OK. I also got rid of the gray highlights (tee-hee). I ran out to the Airstream so Rich and I could take a quick hike into The Dells. He took one look at me...new hair/glasses/et. all...and said, "who are you?" I told him that I was trying to spice it up by recreating myself...

Mostly though...I sat on the couch this weekend, trying not to waste gas/money by running around shopping, with Meena (as my sort of head rest...just look at those crazy feet, I don't know how she would even think that this position on the tiny part of the couch could be comfortable) and caught up on one of my favorite BBC series, Cold Feet. I discovered this series a few years ago, and watched all that I could. I just got the third season, and thought that I had already seen it, but much to my delight I realized that I haven't. This is a witty and dramatic series about 3 couples and their lives and choices...the United States promotional people liken it to Friends. I hate to think that Friends is our best series ever...and this is actually nothing like friends, it is a more mature version I suppose, and much better (in my opinion...then again, I adore British humor) Now I'm about as caught up as I can be...unfortunately there is 5 seasons, but only the first 3 are Region 1...which is the format for USA DVD...I'm about ready to buy a DVD player that can play any region DVD and buy the rest of the series at Amazon.com.uk so that I can figure out what happens (I haven't read the synopsis of the series because I hate to ruin it for myself...) If you watch the series, let me know what you think of it...

Now I'm off to get ready to go labor again, and try to get familiar with my new haircut and glasses...What did you do this weekend?

or just download a player that ignores the region code settings of your DVD drive, like VLC player which requires no firmware updates, and does nothing that would void any warranties. :)

Oh my heavens! This is very exciting news indeed...Tombo...you've made me a happy girl (you know how it is when you get all attached to characters in books/movies/TV shows!)

Ahem...what!? no pics of the new 'do and specs?! Sheesh!

And no, I'm not hibernating. I'm trapped in Grade 1 Reading Land. It's actually quite fun, but awfully time consuming.

I miss you.

Dina & Lois - You know? I thought of posting a picture of myself, but I haven't gotten hang of the new do yet...and by getting a hang of it, I mean, I think it looks too stringy and I can't get the crown of my head to stop looking square. In my mind, I resemble Frankenstein, only without so much green and bolts in my neck and whatnot...I'm not sure if I like this new look or not...

LeSigh.

Granny J - Believe it or not, that picture was not taken with a wide angle lens, as I don't possess one...just a wide angled cat...

That Meena brings the LOLZ!

Sounds like a pretty great way to spend the weekend. But why do we get two Meena pics and no pics of your new glasses or 'do?

A new haircut and new glasses! You must look smashing!

It's good to take it easy on Labour Day and relax. That's what it's all about, right? Not working for one day because you have to work on all the other days?

Well, that's what I'm counting on anyways :P
