Hey...

It's Friday...

isn't it?

What a week...I'd have to say it went fast...super fast.

Maybe that's why I'm so tired.

Since Monday is
a holiday, I believe I will take full advantage of the fact that there will not be any businesses on my part of the block open (according to the signs on their doors anyway) and not open Snap-Snap. I used to open on these holidays, and stand around rather hopeful...but, I think I shall cut to the chase and do something else.

What that will be, I don't know...

I'm hoping to get some creativity in this weekend...and I'm feeling a little restless, like I want to go somewhere, perhaps a little road trip or a picnic?

I noticed last night, out of the corner of my eye, on my way to the bank, there were people setting up on The Square for a barf and crap show...and managed to suppress a groan (oh sorry, I'm a little jaded about seeing mostly the same junk set up on the square weekend after weekend...I suppose it's arts and crafts...but, it's usually a bunch of pre-made junk that draws business away from those of us who have shops) So, I suppose, a picnic on the square may be out...

Luckily I live in a central place in Arizona and can just about get anywhere with just a little bit of effort...
or sleep...

maybe I'll just sleep...
a 3 day weekend in bed sounds lovely....
(I wonder how hard it would be to move the fridge closer to the bed?)
heck, 3 days in my PJ's sounds divine
(well, perhaps I could change them daily, but still!)

Do you all have any grand plans for the weekend?

Surprise...

Rusty left yesterday afternoon...

You know how when some people come visit, that you feel exhausted and happy to get your own space and the time for your own routine back?

Not so when Rusty went home...

I already miss her.

But, yesterday afternoon when I got home to quickly feed the cat before I ran out to the local Mac store to get a couple of little accessories for the SweetieMacBook, I turned around and found this amazing chicken linen draped over my stove with a little note on it...

Ahhhh...

I almost died, no really...I was so excited I could have fainted and of course, fallen forward where I would have brained myself on the stove...laying in a pool of cat food with a fork in one hand...

Death by vintage kitchen linens...
(what a way to go)

But, it would have been worth it, because I love this little chicken piece so much...
Even if it hints that women are like gossiping chickens.
And, we all know how much chickens gossip...
cackle-cackle.

Thank you Rusty!
(and thanks for visiting and letting me feel like an important mentor...it's nice to be reminded that I actually know something after all these years on the planet. And...if you're packing linens like this? You can come and visit any time! Of course you can come even if you don't have linens...or maybe it's my turn to go on a little trip and visit The Bay Area?)

Tuesday Night...

Rusty and I got together with mom and Rozzie...

When I was so lucky to have Rusty in my life for that short period of time between Junior High and High School...and, since we lived in the same neighborhood...

We spent a lot of time at my house, and that often resulted in hysterical giggling between my Mother, Sister, Rusty and I. So, it was imperative that we all giggle again together.

We went down to to Thaifoon for a little take-out, and shclepped it over to Sharlot Hall, where we sat and had dinner at a rather rustic picnic table (that had once been a tree by the looks of it, and the size of the splinter Rozzie got in her finger)

Then...back to my mom's house...

Mom had to take care of a little next door emergency involving a sick little one next door to her, so Rozzie decided to entertain us with her brand of being a waitress...

She made up a menu on a black board which included things like:

Sleep Pie
Onion Log
Rock Pie
Sheet Cake
Mint Tea

And proceeded to take a hand towel (that had been used as a polishing rag) off the line from drying put it over her arm...and serve us up some good grub! This consisting of small doll-sized pans of dirt with rather large rocks and leaves inserted in them...The best part of the evening came as she put down a rather large pan with a rock in it, and exclaimed:

"Rock Pie!"

"For the Happy Couple!"

"Macintosh!!"

Which made our tummies hurt from laughing (of course, it could have been from all the rocks we ate) we're thinking that macintosh is a much better thing to say that mazeltov...

Don't you think?

Old Friend...

Lunar Eclipse...

Ok, that's not
to suggest that my old friend is a lunar eclipse...although, I'm sure in my lifetime that I have known a few (eclipses I mean)

OR...to suggest that my friend is even old.

Anyway...this is my old friend Rusty whom I used to hang out with back in Ye Ole Junior High

(cause' you know it was a long time ago if the words Ye Ole are inserted before it)

She's in town for a few days getting pointers about running a brick and mortar

(that's a store to you and me)

So...this is my week to be a mentor.

Which is like a treat for me because, she's one of the funniest people I know...and we erupt in giggles most of the time we're together...

My stomach is already sore from laughing and it hasn't even been 24 hours yet...

After work today, we went out to visit with Rich and do a little hiking in The Dells...and also to see if we could catch any indication of the Lunar Eclipse that was happening tonight...

Of course, it's not moving into Pisces until 10:33 PM and won't be fully eclipsed until about 2:30 AM...and I will be sawing some serious logs by then.

(I'm already sitting here trying to figure out how to get out of my AM walk)

Let the Pisces wishy-washiness begin...

The Weekend Update...

(Can I say that? Or is it copyrighted by Saturday Night live? No matter...)

The weekend seems like a strange blur punctuated with walking, and sewing and reading...

Saturday afternoon...Megan had a lovely soiree!

Guests were to bring a side dish...and rather than limiting myself to just one thing (cause' who can do just that?) I brought my Applesauce cupcakes along with a fresh cucumber/tomato/artichoke heart/parsley/olive salad as well...

I got to use my sweet vintage muffin tins to help me in my culinary adventure...and was planning on grabbing vanilla and chocolate icing (to do black and whites in honor of the new Mac...oh, yes, you heard me right) and I accidentally grabbed the chocolate cake mix...not the chocolate icing mix...grrrr

The food spread was amazing (as always) and I got to sneak away with a few left overs...

And, I came home at a wonderfully decent hour (which sometimes doesn't happen when we all get together)

Megan is a jewelry designer along with being a talented artist using other art mediums...and it is a joy to be invited to her house to visit with every one...and see all of her latest creations...I am lucky enough to carry several of her jewelry pieces in Snap Snap if anyone would like to pop by and see them...

And, since I am usually so inspired by Megan and her creativity...I decided to get crack-a-lackin' on making that top I was meaning to get around to um, last weekend...and then all week?

I dug the now wrinkled fabric out of the dryer...and laid A top that I recently bought at Target over the top and used that as a guide/pattern.

It's a kind of
loose smockish design with 2 front pockets (which I did not have time to sew on before the party...but did on Sunday morning)

And, it must be a Mexican fabric sort of week...cause' I'm finally using some of the fabric I have had stashed...

See...I knew it would come in handy!

I got up on Sunday and finished a few of the details I didn't quite have time for on Saturday, which was sewing on both pockets, and a set of vintage red bow style buttons...I also included a little close-up of the elastic back detail...

I do like
the way it turned out, and since I didn't use a pattern there were moments of sitting and having to ponder quite a bit over what step should come next...and what step would be easier...

And, it was quite a hit at the party as well...I was thinking maybe because at the most inopportune moments one or both of the straps would fall down...

blush.

But, I fixed that and safety pinned it to the necessary undergarments when I wore it again on Sunday...

I guess it was a hit...

warranting a 2-day-in-a-row wearing...

I am using a huge disclaimer on this next photo:

I am putting it up because Ms. Megan looks so lovely...I, however...seem to feel the need of grinning like an idiot simpleton when I get in front of the camera at times...

And, how many chins can one girl have?

Really...

And, I don't care what you say...it's not good.

There will be no further discussion.

Well, since I
happened to have the sewing machine up and running on Sunday...I fused this little Mexican tarot card to the back of this lovely black Lucky Brand tank top I have.

The tank top says:

Lover

so, I figured that
the little card with the crossed arrows was just romantic enough to go on the back, and dress it up a bit.

And I think I shall wear it on Monday...

Cause' I don't know if it's proper to wear my skellington shirt 3 days in a row...

A Shiny Red Apple Is Nice, But...

Not Every Apple is Red...

Oh yes, Sadira has been very good to herself this year (she was thinking as she went over it in her head recently) Shall I break it down for you?

  1. New Used Car
  2. Jewelry from Tiffany's
  3. Canon Digital Camera
  4. New Cell Phone

Oh...and this little surprise yesterday...

A new MacBook...

You see...I am coming up on 3 years for my HP, and the original plan was to get a cheaper computer to see if I really used it...then upgrade to a better model if I did

...well, I do...so, I did...

I am also an insane saver, and when I put my mind to a goal, I usually achieve it...

And, yesterday was the day.

So, into the local Mac store I did go where I met Rich there after work, and he walked me through all the Macs...

I had originally thought I would like the 17" MacBook Pro...but decided for the price difference, I would actually like the 13.3" MacBook...in BLACK...which has more features, and incidentally matches my Nano...while still fitting on the card table/computer desk I use.

Plus...the little apple on the screen lights up white...

swoon

I am super impressed
with this computer already...and have stayed up a little past my bed time to play with it a little while longer...mostly to see if I could do a blog post...

I'm tellin' ya' there are so many amazing little extras this thing comes with...including a remote control that is so cute I want to make it into a key chain and carry it around with me (OK, maybe that's a little much) Plus, apple kindly encloses little apple stickers...so, the honey of a car may have a new decoration soon!

I'm actually
so excited I may start using more exclamation points as I write (which explains why Mac users tend to use them...they're just so darned excited about their computers)

My next goal is to get the house painted...I wonder how many exclamation points that will cause me to use?

The Big Bag...

Among all the walking and hiking and being in the outdoors this weekend...was sprinkled some "down time"

Now, I don't know
about y'all, but I am noticing after a full week in which there is also a lot of hiking and walking...peppered with working...

I have a hard time relaxing.

There...I said it.

I don't relax well.

When I have days off, I like to have fun...sometimes to the extreme, sometimes to the just enough. I had decided early on that I would try to take every opportunity to rest this last weekend...especially after losing the voice and having the sniffles and sneezes.

So, I did have wonderful intentions. I tried laying down several times...but alas, I could not tempt sleep to visit with me more than 20 minutes at a time...I guess I was just too wound up (you'd think all the activity I have been participating in would make me drop in my tracks)

So...instead of sleeping, I fantasized about sewing (I know...you can roll your eyes at me too) Mostly about a new top to wear to a party that I will be attending this Saturday...I hopped up to do the initial cutting of the fabric, and realized that it hadn't been washed yet...so, into the laundry it went (where it is still sitting in the dryer as we speak) while I paced around, now wanting desperately to sew something.

I remembered that some time ago, I washed my Mexican Lotteria fabric in anticipation of making a new LARGE bag to carry all my goods in to and from Snap Snap.

So...out it came, with the star fabric for the liner, the pink skull fabric for the handles, and the natural batting I always have on hand for a quilting emergency. I had to chuckle at myself (because I had decided reluctantly to sew in between each fortune card because it just didn't look right unless I did) when sometime during the day Rich called to check in and ask me what I was doing,

"quilting!"

I also said
some other not so silly things (actually quite nasty as I was at the pivotal "struggling with the stupid straps" part of the project...sorry Rich, I did call and apologize shortly after)

It felt so good
to finally be done with this project...even if everyone makes fun of me for the big bags I carry to and from work...but really, they're the perfect size for all the stuff I inevitably find myself toting around...

Perfect indeed...

My Wife...

My Self...

As I was staggering, um...walking around the hood the other night, jammin to my music...and listening to my stomach grow in time to the beat, I had an interesting thought.

I wish I had a microwave.

I don't have one, and my excuse has always been, because my grandmother and my mother don't have one...I don't need one. But, I was feeling so very hungry and out of energy that I thought I might like to get a pile of Lean Cuisine and have them for myself for dinners...that way, it would be like someone was cooking for me. Now I know it's not a good idea to stuff my body with all this processed food, especially after I have been working so hard to get in shape...But, wouldn't it feel good to have a warm meal waiting for you when you get home? (at some point it would be nice to have someone meet me at the door with a martini in hand as well...but not necessary) Or just someone wanting to cook for you? Nurture you with food...and perhaps ask you about your day?

I mean,
you are talking to the woman who prepares the auto-coffee maker the night before so as to have coffee ready at a certain time the next morning...and I have been known to leap out of bed and do a happy dance around the kitchen...feeling so very loved because apparently the coffee fairy visited and made me a cuppa (Yes...I realize that I prepared it, and I've since switched to decaf, but I still smile when the little things are done for me)

And, last night...as I gratefully took the night off from my PM walk (I needed a little break) I laughed out loud at this bottle of wine I stumbled across at CostPlus...
Mad Housewife...Cabernet Sauvignon (2005) The Description is as follows:

Somewhere near the cool shadows of the laundry room.
Past the litter box and between the plastic yard toys.
This is your time.
Time to enjoy a moment to yourself.
A moment without madness.
The dishes can wait.
Dinner be damned.
Mad Housewife Cabernet Sauvignon.

I had to buy it...because I love a Cab. and I snorted so much in the aisle, I figured I owed it to myself.

I've been a wife...and a darned good one. I love to bake and cook and nurture, I love to ask someone about their day, and then listen to them. But maybe, just maybe...

I need a wife.

Or perhaps I need to make frozen dinners that can be easily reheated for myself during the week...

One's that can be made in the oven and enjoyed with a glass of Cab.

Now, if I could only get the cat to dress up in an apron and learn how to mix a drink...

It's All In The Details...

So, yesterday was a whilrwind rush...from the moment I jumped out of bed, until I got to fall into it once again (I actually have a couple of emails to write...is it weird to want to send a form letter out to people? Lord, it's like one of those tacky "guess what I've been up to this year?" Xmas card inserts isn't it?)

So, yesterday was the 20th wasn't it? It was coincidentally the anniversary of my re-up with Verizon wireless. I got a cell phone after my divorce, cause' my EX didn't want them while we were married (oh how we let ourselves get talked into the silliest of things) and I love technology...I love gadgets...I love accessories. I think it's fun to learn new things (especially when I remember to give myself patience and the adequate amount of time to learn how to work them)

Now,
I am a saver, and I have been thinking about this purchase for quite some time now, socking a bit of money away here and there...while eagerly anticipating the moment when I would hold this new Red MOTOKRZR in my hot little hands...

I had been misinformed about what I would actually be getting in return for re-upping with a 2 year contract, mainly a $100. credit. Let me break it down for you:

Starting Phone Cost: $150.00
2 year agreement credit: $100.00
Mail-in rebate: $50.00

New Cost of Phone: $00.00

Yes, nothing...nothing at all. Which makes me love Verizon even more. Not only do they have the best coverage in this area...but now I have the most bitchen phone ever (you just can't kill that Valley Girl can you?) And, I ran all the way out to PV before work, so that I would have the phone all day to play with and learn the new phone ropes...I retained all my old programmed numbers, but not my pictures or ringtones (and I had one special picture that I use as my wallpaper...dang it...and a special ringtone for someone I'm smitten with, and I can't get the danged Verizon Get it Now thing to work...grrrr, oh yeah...patience)

And then...in the middle of all of this fun phone-ness, I received a package in the mail from one Special Gal. You see, she lives in SantaFe, and remarked that there is a Toyota dealership that is called Beaver Toyota. OK...I'm sorry, but that is too funny.

giggle

It just made me think about the license plate covers...Beaver Toyota...

giggle

And what do I get in the mail? A license plate cover AND the thing that goes inside of it...

giggle

Oh My Heavens...

Such sign love...and I want to thank each and every one of you!

Well, well...I walk.

Yes...that's what I seem to be doing a lot of lately.

Eat.
Walk.
Sleep.
Sweat.

And, this morning,
I was up and early at Peavine before I turned my attention to some other million things I needed to squeeze into the day...hence the late post (good excuse eh?)

But first...the weekend in review...
Well, most of it anyway.

I got up early early on Saturday and walked the Peavine...deciding that I would attempt to do my full 8 all in one fell swoop, since I'd never gone that far on the trail...and had a great time! I also saw this teeny tiny horney toad...I was tired and a bit burnt on only one side of my neck from the sun, but over with my exercising by 10 AM (a good plus, if one wants to do things for the rest of the day...Unfortunately, I can't remember anything I did do)

Wait...I had lunch with Rich and watched a movie and just hung out...he'd been climbing earlier in The Dells, so we were both a bit tired and worn out from the sun...so, we called it an early night (which didn't stop me from connecting with a new friend I've made through Rich...) We're kind of like Internet soul-pals...and had no problem talking for about 2 and a half hours! (As a matter of fact, I received a package from her today...but, I will share that later!)

Then...it was off to bed for me.

I would like to say
it was an early night, but it wasn't near enough early for the 5:45 wake-up call I got from Rich...who'd been up earlier than that...

All excited
to go to The Promised Land...a place he'd found earlier last week, and one I'd been begging to go to with him...so, I got my wish. I threw some hiking stuff on, and off I went...

It's quite a jaunt out to the middle of nowhere (also known as Chino Valley) hanging a left at that cool old windmill, on which a rather large hawk landed on for us to photograph him...

He's been wanting to go back as well only not alone (cause' the last time he was there? There was some guy with a gun hunting a mountain lion he happened to see, or something like that) so it worked out well for both of us...

There apparently
has been a bunch of mountain lion activity lately all over...although in the 27 years I've lived here...I've never seen one, but no matter, we figured we'd be safer in a pair...as Rich says, "you only have to be able to outrun the person you're hiking with"

um, yeah...

Well...when we got down to the trail, we were surprised by tons of running water...actual water, that was so loud in some places, we had to raise our voices to be heard...

I had worn my Chaco hiking sandals, totally forgetting that Rich had said that the rocks were super smooth and the soles didn't stick well to them...picture me ice skating on sand, mud and rocks...but, there was so much water, he'd wished he'd have brought his so that we could have hiked further in...using the middle of the creek as a trail. Perhaps next time?

And there he is...
our fearless leader...desperately trying to point out some bolts and chains for the climbing routes to me...I was just trying to snap his picture, while looking for the chains...

We stop to photograph a lot, which is super fun (and may I say once again...that the second picture on his post of that day is my absolute favorite one ever! There is something that totally speaks to me with the rushing and somewhat calm water with the rocks dividing the whole thing...and I'm wanting a large copy to hang up at Chez Foolsewoode) sometimes Rich takes a million more pictures than I do...which causes me to wander aimlessly off, and listen for his voice to come drifting to my ears, "Sadira? Where are you?"

I scoped out this tiny cutie frog on our journey back to the car, he has the sweetest stripey legs...it looks like the Alice In Wonderland of cutie frogs! Rich also scoped out what looked like a raven/crow...which was the question that came out of his mouth. My answer...

"No, it's a vulture"

Shudder.

We both got super creeped out and kept glancing behind and above just in case it had some sort of predictive powers, and there was a mountain lion lurking...Needless to say, we were done by 10 AM, and I came home to nap.

Um, Yeah...

But...that's a story for a different day this week...

17 August 2007

This Weeks...

WIP...

I have a little easel that sits on the sidewalk of the front of the shop...pointing people in and informing them of goings on at Snap Snap...After a few years of dragging it in and out...it sitting out in sun, rain, snow and wind (sounds like the Postal Service doesn't it?) It was in sore need of TLC. I proceeded to take it apart, replace the hinges...and decided it needed a make-over on the side that is a blackboard, because the chalk wears off easy and washes off in the rain and snow...

Now, I painted the outdoor sign...as a matter of fact, I paint all of the things around the shop that need to be painted...

Part of my creative process you know...

I started by blowing up the image I wanted to use, cutting it out of paper, using an Exacto knife to do the more intricate detailing, taping and tracing...and then painting the base of the image white...

I then used carbon paper (yes, they still make it, and it's a bit expensive now...but luckily I have 100 sheets...so, if anyone needs any, let me know) to trace a rough outline of the design...

and then painted those parts, the outline, with black paint...

I used
the left over paint I used for the outdoor sign. I bought it at Sherwin-Williams and paid a gazillion dollars for it, but, it's amazing paint and is holding up in the weather well. I had 5 quarts mixed: black, white, red, yellow, and blue...because I like to mix my own colors, and those certainly cover all of them...

Then, I "colored" in the lines with my paint brush...and designed a little bit of wordage to put within the "sign" part of the new sign...

This also happens to be the image I use on my business cards, and is a 17th Century Italian Map Cartouche, which I adore...and had a fun time painting!

So, here it is...

The finished sign, in the easel which is now all put together like new, and made it's debut yesterday (and I ran it in at one point because of the rain)

Dang.

Now the other side looks like it needs a makeover...

Plus, I'm hoping that the new sign may clear up any confusion there may be surrounding the shop. During the last couple of days, I've been noticing a disturbing trend (and it's not just the micro-minis people have been trying to foist off on me) coming from the young local high school students. Now, anyone who really knows me, can vouch for the fact that I think that the blank, wide-eyed-out-of-it-stare mirrored by the same in the personality is an act (it has to be right?) and I have been annoyed by these girls since attending high school with them myself...So, I suppose it shouldn't surprise me in the least that I have chosen a profession in which they would still run rampant in my life. Anyway...as I said, in the last few days, no fewer than 3 girls have approached the counter, using their whatever attitudes and throwing intelligence to the wind to ask the question,

"What kind of store is this?'

And, I'm telling you, the wit that is building in my brain is wanting to pour out...but, I only confusedly look at them, sigh and reply...

"A clothing store"

"Oh...OK! Great! Thanks!"

ummmmm....

I'll keep you posted
on further progress...

Have a great weekend, I will be walking walking, and resting too, getting my voice back...

16 August 2007

Hoarse...

Well...

I spoke too soon.

My personal trainer suggested that I come home after work and rest. The tone of my voice was worrying him, as he listened to it get more strained and laryngitis like by the end of the day (it's so nice to be worried about) so...I heeded his advice, even though I feel fine...I sound awful, and I am tired...

Only stopping to
go to Thaifoon, the little take-out Thai place right down the street from my house. They make the best food, plus...they have no space and wait to make it for you fresh after you order, using no MSG, no animal fat, no wheat, and some fresh veggies from their own garden.

I ordered:

Thai Crack (oh, that's a Tom Ka special to the average person)...a veggie based soup with, coconut milk (you can get it without as well, Tom Yum Ka) and a ton of mushrooms, cilantro, baby corn, onions, tofu, bamboo, lemongrass and red chili...I always order it mild, cause I don't do well with a lot of hot spiciness (actually, since they make it right there...you can order it with or without whatever you want...)

1 order of Veggie Spring Rolls...veggies and tofu in fresh rice wraps, with the special recipe peanut sauce.

That should fix me up...plus, the lemongrass has antimicrobial properties and now I crave this soup whenever I'm sick (it's also good when I'm not sick...only to be surpassed by Malee's Thai Bistro in Scottsdale) OH...and I stopped to get more OJ. I'm not a huge OJ drinker, and usually only drink in when I feel like I need more C in my life (and when I drink it, I go for the pulpy kind...and this has the amazing title of Most Pulp on the top of it...you almost have to use a spoon to drink it...I'm in heaven! I will not be drinking it with my Thai food however) And, my latest issue of Cosmo came.

Pick your jaws up...
I subscribe to Cosmo...it's my dirty little trashy magazine. This month's issue has "his #1 sex fantasy" in it...I'm gonna' open it up and see if my picture is at the top of the article (tee-hee)

I was going to take a picture of all of this goodness for you...but I accidentally left my camera at the shop, and I am too tired to run and get it (that's why you're getting my lima beans from the other night...yet, another food I love)

15 August 2007

Morning Walks...

Are fun!

Well...usually they are, with the opportunity of getting up early and being out in the world before lot of people get going...seeing the wild life...wheezing...

Something may
or may not be wrong with me. Sounds weird, don't get too excited...but, I have a cold, or allergies that are now moving into a sinus thing (infection perhaps?) and a coughy lung thing. Why now? Why after I just committed to walking so much?

Could it be:

  • switching to decaf?
  • not having all of my days off and already being tired?
  • the cool evenings and warm days?
  • the humidity?
  • being covered with mosquito bites and being allergic to them?
  • my body detoxing due to increased and regular exercise?

Maybe it's a combination of all of those things, or something else I haven't thought of...whatever the case, I am not taking any breaks, but pushing through (because I'm worried about my motivation) and am feeling better every day (although tired)

However, I am enjoying my morning walks through the neighborhood, and besides the wildlife sightings, I am seeing some pretty interesting early morning characters as well...
  • The woman who jogs in really short athletic shorts, like the ones from the 70's?
  • The couple that dress all in white and look like they've stepped out of a Coldwater Creek catalog.
  • The two women who stroll leisurely through the streets under the guise of serious walking.
  • A friend of mine who mountain bikes and switches every other day with his wife who walks the dog so someone can stay home with their twins.
  • The parents of someone I went to high school with, that when I see them, causes me to cross the street so I don't have to hear about how well he's doing, his beautiful wife, and their angelic children.
  • The elderly couple who walk to Safeway every morning to get their paper...the woman wears so much perfume I smell like it after we pass each other!
  • The um, rather large woman on a bicycle who pedals and weaves like a drunk driver through the streets with a huge smile and blank look, somewhat reminding me of Marry Poppins only not as cute, and doesn't have that totally great parrot head umbrella (plus, the last time she offered me a spoon-full of sugar, I walked quickly away...cause' you're not supposed to take candy from strangers)

Maybe I should switch to yoga in the living room instead?

14 August 2007

Bet Cha' Didn't Know...

I've been tagged by my good friend over at Velvet Brick to share a few random facts about myself...

1. I have a tattoo of the Cat In The Hat on my right ankle. I love it! I thought about getting it for quite a while before I did, because everyone warned me that I'd better pick something that I would like forever since it would be on there for as long as that...and I am a huge Cat In The Hat fan. I immediately wanted another tattoo...and have also been wanting to get an arm band, but darned if I can't for the life of me decide on the exact design...

2. I am not that great at giving directions. I have lived up here in the North land for a long while, and I still get the names of the highways mixed up, and the street names sometimes are not familiar (I'm more of a visual landmark person) yet, I get at least 3 people on a weekly basis that purposefully walk into my shop to ask directions. It is the most bizarre thing ever! I usually get people straightened out by sometimes hauling out the phone book and looking at the map in there...

3. I don't like the food on my plate to touch. It's fine if it's supposed to...like gravy on mashed potatoes. But, gravy on other veggies? NO WAY! Or mashed potatoes mixed with other veggies? Or the gravy on bread...or anything other than butter on bread...ick. It's weird, I spend a lot of time partitioning things so they don't touch...

4. I am somewhat of a mechanical genius...my parents were divorced when I was 10, and it fell to my shoulders to tinker around with things and figure them out (plus, I usually always read directions before I put things together or before I use things) I set all the clocks and watches and did all that kind of stuff...yet, I can not for the life of me figure out how to program my new dual DVD and VCR machine to tape things. Something also happened to my stereo and there's some sort of timer set on the thing, and if I don't take all the CD's out, I get serenaded at midnight. At first I thought it was some sort of romantic Say Anything thing...and someone was standing outside my house with a boom box...but, it was just the stereo in the living room.

5. I have always wanted someone to serenade me with a boom box outside of my window...

6. I have a hard time sitting still through a movie anymore. I get shifty. I like to watch movies more and more at home, and I get up to do all sorts of things during them...pause-laundry pause-cook food pause-talk on the phone pause-go potty a million times...it makes it hard to go to the movie theater, which is a bummer, cause I want to see Stardust on the big screen.

7. When I was a teenager and developing my more womanly curves...one of my mom's friends told me that if you slept without your bra on, your chest would get bigger. Ever since then I don't sleep with a bra on. Actually, thinking about it, I don't think that it would be comfortable to sleep with a bra on. I suppose it worked...I wonder if there's anything I can sleep without to make myself taller?

8. I don't lend out my books or my clothes. I value them too much, and in the past have had too many people not return them. If I do happen to pass on a book to someone, it's usually with the thought in my mind that I do not expect to ever see it again.

9. I am a hopeless romantic. I love romantic things and actions, I love candles and love letters, poems and music, movies...I love when people in my life take the time out to really do something wonderful for me, or with me. Maybe I like thoughtfulness? That's it...I like to know people are thinking of me even when they're not with me.

OK...that's all I can think of right now (at least things that are fit to print on the blog!) I have no idea who to tag next...so, if anyone out there wants to do this meme...please do, and leave me a comment so we can all know more about you!
